Alex S. Vitale - Coordinator

Alex S. Vitale is Professor of Sociology at Brooklyn College and the CUNY Graduate Center. He has been studying police practices for over 30 years. Prof. Vitale is the author of City of Disorder: How the Quality of Life Campaign Transformed New York Politics and The End of Policing. His academic writings on policing have appeared in Policing and Society, Police Practice and Research, The American Journal of Sociology, Criminology and Public Policy, Social Research, Mobilization, and Contemporary Sociology. He is also a frequent essayist, whose writings have been published in The NY Times, Washington Post, The Guardian, The Nation, Vice News, Fortune, and USA Today. He has also appeared on CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, NPR, PBS, Democracy Now, and The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.

Shayhan Lewis - Administrative Assistant

Shayhan Lewis is a community activist with a BA in Sociology from Brooklyn College.

Anna Sipek - Technology Fellow

Anna is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, where she majored in Communications and Media Studies.

Aaron Cohen - Communications Fellow

Aaron Cohen is an activist and communications strategist with a commitment to social justice and higher education advocacy. Aaron holds a BA in Political Science from Queens College of the City University of New York.

Magali Ramos - Student Intern

Kate Dempsey - Advocacy Fellow

Kate is a Brooklyn College graduate, where she was editor of the school newspaper The Vanguard. She is originally from Connecticut where she was active in efforts to end gun violence and the Justice for Steven Barrier campaign in Stanford, CT. She currently staffs our work with the Decrim NY campaign.

Ella Hauck - Student Intern

Ella is a student at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She has been active in youth and sex worker advocacy.

Florian Griese - Student Intern

Florian is a Criminology and Forensic Psychology major at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He is originally from Germany
